INTERESTING TORONTO MULTICULTURAL FACTS...

  • According to the 2011 National Household Survey (NHS), GTA population:
    • Aboriginal identity population: 36,995 (0.7%)
    • non-Aboriginal identity population: 5,484,240 (99.3%)
    • Canadian-born (non-immigrants): 2,891,990 (52.4%)
    • foreign-born (immigrants): 2,537,405 (46.0%)
    • non-permanent residents: 91,840 (1.7%)
  • City of Toronto was home to 8% of Canada's population, 30 per cent of all recent immigrants and 20% of all immigrants
  • Of the immigrants living in Toronto in 2011, 381,745 came to Canada between 2006 and 2011. These recent immigrants made up 15% of the immigrants in Toronto.
  • Half of all immigrants to the City of Toronto have lived in Canada for less than 15 years
  • The City of Toronto had 45% of the GTA's population and was home to:
    • 52.4 per cent of all GTA immigrants
    • 36 per cent of all immigrants living in Ontario
    • 20 per cent of all immigrants living in Canada
    • More than half of all immigrants living in the City were age 25 and over; 7% were 5 and under; 16% were 6 to 14; and 22% were 15 to 24
