Everything comes full circle!

Does it seem some days that the clock is just ticking faster and faster, and the months flying by? While we had just returned from summer holidays, we celebrated Thanksgiving and Halloween. Before we know it, we'll be wishing each other "Happy 2017".

This has always been the time for me to pause and look at what we set to do since 2004. At Beaches Living, our mission is to serve our community. We do so by sharing stories from the past, while thinking of ways to connect to the present and the future.

This edition is about Toronto's railways - transportation that took Toronto from a small town to Canada's largest city. Because of railways, Toronto became the city it is today. No longer do the stations, buildings and rail yards dominate our city, but the signs are still about us, from old tracks, historic buildings, tunnels, trestle bridges, as well as re-purposed railway buildings that are now restaurants, galleries, museums, breweries, even an LCBO store!

Beginning in January, Canada kicks off its 150th celebration. Our country is still young, but over the past 150 years, we've gone from horse drawn carriages to steam powered locomotives, to automobiles, to aircrafts; and we've seen space ships landing on the moon.

Stories of our past remind us that we are part of history as well as the future. Although we no longer depend solely on trains for travel, each of us holds some memorable experience with train travel, and the sound of trains passing by.

It is always a heart-felt endeavor at Beaches Living to produce a magazine rich with interesting stories. We hope when reading this issue, you feel more connected next time you are at a train station, running or walking along abandoned tracks, or strolling through an art gallery that was once an old train station.

Happy Holiday Season. Best of 2017!
