Beaches Living Guide Wins an Apex Award of Excellence 

Beaches Living Guide, our bi-annual resource guide for the Beaches neighbourhood has been awarded a 2007 APEX Award of Excellence in the category of Magazines and Journals.   APEX 2007 awards were based on excellence in achieving overall communications effectiveness and excellence. Beaches Living Guide was awarded for overall publishing excellence.

  #1. Celebrate 19th Beaches Jazz Festival Week

The StreetFest happens Thursday, July 26 to Saturday July 28, along Queen Street East between Woodbine Avenue to Beech Avenue.
MainStage concerts at Kew Garden are on Sat. July 28 and Sun. July 29,  11 am to 5 pm.  

Thursday to Saturday closures:
Queen Street East, from the east side of Woodbine Avenue to the west side of Beech Avenue, will be closed on Thursday, July 26 and Friday, July 27 from 7 pm to midnight and on Saturday, July 28 from 6:30 pm to midnight to accommodate this event.  

  #2. Was your house built before 1955? Concerned about lead in your water? Lead testing info:
To request free testing for lead in drinking water, you can call the Water Quality Lab at 416-392-2894. No other Toronto Water number can take these requests. Alternatively, you can email the lab at: waterqualityline@toronto.ca.  

Lead contamination of drinking water is only a concern in homes built prior to 1955. If a home was built before 1955, a resident can request free water testing. When calling the lab residents must provide:
  • name
  • full address
  • closest major intersection
  • phone number

Joseph Hsu doesn't operate a typical pharmacy…

School did not prepare Joseph Hsu for working in the Beaches. The University of Toronto educated pharmacist and owner of Hoopers Pharmacy at 2124 Queen Street East has found that Beaches residents are a health-conscious lot.
