#2. October Gardening: Moving Houseplants Back Indoors As the temperatures fall, it is time to call your houseplants back inside for the winter months.  You can help your houseplants slowly readjust to indoor conditions by bringing them in at night and moving them back outside during the day. Give your plants a week of this routine to prepare them for the environmental changes.

Fall Houseplant Maintenance Checklist
  1. Remove damaged leaves and spent flowers.
  2. Inspect every leaf and pot for spiders, ants, ladybugs, pill bugs, and centipedes. Use an old rag to wipe each leave and ensure you remove eggs and all the tiny ones.
  3. Houseplants that are active in the wintertime can be submerged in a large bucket. The water bath will get rid of many bugs, cleans the pot and waters the plant. Hose your extra large plants in the shower.
  4. Dormant or semi-dormant should not be watered or soaked before the move indoors for they are accustomed to a dry period of a few months.
