Blue Flags are flying on Toronto Beaches! Blue Flag on the Beach
Four Toronto beaches measure up to world-class standards to fly the Blue Flag, an international award for clean beaches. Woodbine Beaches, Cherry, Wards Island and Hanlan's Point all fly the Blue Flag this summer. Toronto is the first municipality in Canada to receive Blue Flag designation for its beaches. In 2005, Blue Flags are flying for the first time on Canadian beaches. Internationally, over 2,400 beaches received the Blue Flag award. According to Councillor Sandra Bussin, our Blue Flag Criteria is higher then many places in Europe.
