Beaches Living Guide - Fall & Winter 2017-2018 ![]() Letter from the directorCanada's year long 150th celebration ended on a high note for me, personally. First, a summer trip to Newfoundland, Canada's "youngest" province; then, a Thanksgiving canoe trip on Ontario's majestic Georgian Bay, followed by a road trip through the most beautiful foliage and autumn colours of Algonquin Park. Arriving at Gatineau, Quebec, for a special MosaiCanada150 Exhibit. Returning to Toronto through Ottawa, our nation’s capital and the parliament buildings, and then driving along the banks of the Ottawa River. If you had the opportunity to visit this special exhibit, you might agree with me. Told through massive size living plant sculptures, MosaiCanada150 was truly spectacular and significant. Here were stories of each province and territory, and stories about our national heroes, such as former local Beaches resident Glenn Gould, and memories of defining national moments of pride, like Canada's triumphant final goal in the 1972 Summit Series. This year's Canada 150th celebration certainly taught me so much more about our country: the beautiful land, fascinating people, rich and unique culture, arts as well as the inclusive welcome we give to everyone. I know this experience is not unique; many of you also have celebrated Canada 150 in various ways. I hope you too have learned and discovered more about Canada over this past year. After signing off this edition of the Guide, I plan to collect all the fun memories from this year, organize the many photos from the trips, and share with family and friends. I hope you’ll do the same. There will be a photo album on our Beaches Living website beachesliving.ca where you can share your Canada 150 stories, journeys and memories. As the year comes to a close, in this issue we share with you a brief history of our beloved Canada over 150 years. Enjoy and share your comments with us and our readers. Once again, Happy Canada 150! Canada, you will always be young at heart and beautiful, inside and out! Hong Zhao Beaches Living Guide - Fall & Winter 2017-2018 |
