There's something about the water

Merrill Pierce of MPsquared Coaching, swears a connection exists between the proximity of water to Beaches residents. "For most people, you just walk down to the end of the boardwalk and it's like taking ten yoga classes," she said. "It just immediately draws people at a different level of energy.

Pierce is a professional coach and mentor who specializes in life management and corporate coaching. Maybe destiny had her moving close to the water and leaving her lucrative offerings behind. It took 20 years in the advertising and marketing industry before she began questioning her own position. "I did everything I was supposed to do," she said. "I climbed the ladder, I worked really hard, I did good work and at the end of the day… you feel like something is missing," she said.

Her first steps in her search for change involved divorcing herself from her corporate position, a vice-president for an International Advertising agency.

In 1997, Pierce packed her stuff and was calling the Beaches community home. A year later, MPsquared opened at the Beaches Wellness Centre on 2276 Queen Street E. She was now back around people, helping clients excel through periods of transition and change. "There's nothing better than someone having an epiphany and coming to terms with the fact that they are creators of their own destiny," Pierce said

Along with coaching, Pierce has a full plate teaching first and second year business students at Humber College.

And the water?

She can't imagine living anywhere else. "For me to be able to take my dogs down to the lake every morning and just come home to this every night when I been downtown in a crazy environment…it's very nurturing and good for the soul," she said.
